Off-grid case study

Denise & Terry’s little slice of heaven

Denise and Terry’s off-grid homestead northeast of Snowshoe

Northeast of Snowshoe, an off-grid homestead needed battery replacement. Their flooded lead-acid banks were failing. Lithium looked tempting — until winterizing, cold temperatures, and voltage differences made it a poor fit without expensive equipment upgrades.

Sun Directed installed maintenance-free nano-carbon batteries instead: the right equipment for that homestead, not the trendiest one. That’s how we approach every project.

Honest equipment choices

  • Diagnose what is actually failing — batteries, charge controllers, or both.
  • Match chemistry to climate and how the home is winterized.
  • Avoid forcing lithium where voltage and cold make it the wrong answer.
