About Sun Directed
A Centre County company — not a national solar mill
Michael Shadow launched Green Building Solutions, LLC in 2008 with geothermal, energy audits, and weatherization. After Solar Energy International training and NABCEP credentials, solar work grew — and the company rebranded as Sun Directed in January 2010. Heather Shadow is co-founder and remains part of the story.
Our mission is straightforward: empower building owners to produce energy from the sun, educate homeowners and businesses, and install transparent solutions that last generations.

Off-grid case study
Denise & Terry’s little slice of heaven
Northeast of Snowshoe, an off-grid homestead needed battery replacement. Their flooded lead-acid banks were failing. Lithium looked tempting — until winterizing, cold temperatures, and voltage differences made it a poor fit without expensive equipment upgrades.
Sun Directed installed maintenance-free nano-carbon batteries instead: the right equipment for that homestead, not the trendiest one. That’s how we approach every project.
